Privacy Policy

This policy covers every app published by Abandon Quest, and this website. "We" is Abandon Quest, and you can reach a human at abandonquestband@gmail.com.

The short version

We have no accounts, we run no analytics and no advertising, and we do not sell or share anything about you with anybody. There is no profile of you here, because we never built anywhere to keep one.

Your microphone

Some of our apps listen through the microphone, and they will always ask before they do. Where an app listens in order to react to sound — to know when you have stopped talking, or to follow what it is hearing — that audio is measured as it arrives and thrown away. It is not written to disk, not kept after the moment it is measured, and not sent off your device.

Speech recognition

An app may offer an optional mode that listens for a specific phrase you have written. That mode uses the speech recognition built into your phone — Apple's on iOS, Google's on Android — to turn what you say into text so it can be matched against your own phrases. Depending on your device and its settings, those systems may send audio to Apple or Google to do the recognition, under their privacy policies rather than ours. We never receive that audio or the text it produces; the matching happens on your device. If you would rather that did not happen, leave the mode switched off.

Text you ask us to turn into speech

Where an app speaks text you have written, that text, the voice you chose and the voice settings are sent to our server, which passes them to a speech synthesis provider. The resulting audio comes back to your device and is also cached on our server so that rendering the same words twice does not cost us twice. Nothing else you have written leaves your device — not your documents, not your lists, not your settings.

To keep that server closed to strangers, the app signs in anonymously. That creates a random identifier for your installation. It is not tied to your name, your email address, your phone number or any account, and we do not use it to build a profile of you.

Files an app downloads

An app may download resources it needs — a voice, a model, a sound — from a public location on the internet. Those are ordinary file downloads. Nothing about you travels with the request, and once the file has landed the feature works with no network at all.

What we do not do

No analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising identifiers, no tracking across apps or websites, no location, no contacts, no data brokers. We have no way to sign in as you, because there is nothing to sign in to.

Children

Our apps are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.

Changes

If we change what an app does with your data, we will change this page and move the date at the top. If the change is a significant one, we will say so in that app's release notes rather than hoping you re-read this page.
